Boots for Food 2020 drive held in November was a huge success because of the generosity of residents and the coordination by volunteers with District 69 fire departments. Physically distanced and masked firefighters at our grocery stores and other locations asked residents to help fill the boots for food. Once again, our communities came through in a big way!
Six fire departments raised 1,084 pounds of food and an incredible $93,051 in cash which was donated to the Salvation Army foodbank. Participating fire departments were Coombs Hilliers Volunteer Fire Department, Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department, Deep Bay Fire Department, Errington Fire Department, Parksville Volunteer Fire Department and the Qualicum Beach Fire Department.
Nanoose Bay Volunteer Fire Department also participated and raised $3,000 for Nanoose Community Services. Bow Horn Bay Fire Department's fundraising plans were affected by new COVID-19 provincial health orders.
Donations are extremely important to the Salvation Army foodbank and the Society of Organized Services to provide for less fortunate in our community. Both organizations continue to accept donations; please contact:
